"Keep coming back. It works if you work it."
— AA Closing Phrase
One of the most important things you'll hear in AA is "keep coming back." Recovery isn't a one-time event—it's a daily practice. We keep showing up to meetings, we keep working the Steps, we keep connecting with our sponsor and our support network. Consistency is what keeps us sober.
"It works if you work it" reminds us that recovery requires effort. The tools are here—the Steps, the fellowship, the literature—but we have to use them. We have to do the work. Nobody can do it for us, and shortcuts don't exist. But when we work the program honestly and thoroughly, it really does work.
Some days, showing up feels easy. Other days, it takes everything we have just to get to a meeting or call our sponsor. But those are the days when showing up matters most. Those are the days when the program holds us until we're strong enough to hold ourselves.
Today, commit to showing up. Even if it's hard. Even if you don't feel like it. Keep coming back. Work the program. It works when you work it.
Today, I will recommit to my recovery. I will show up for at least one recovery practice—a meeting, a call to my sponsor, reading recovery literature, or working a Step.
These daily reflections are here to guide you, but you don't have to walk this path alone. If you or someone you love needs personalized support navigating recovery, I'm here to help.
