Spiritual Awakening: Finding Meaning in Recovery

"We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience."

— Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Today's Reflection

Step Twelve speaks of "a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps." This awakening isn't necessarily a dramatic moment—it's often a gradual shift in how we see ourselves, others, and the world around us.

A spiritual awakening means we begin to live with purpose and meaning. We realize that life is about more than just avoiding pain or seeking pleasure. We discover that there's something greater than ourselves guiding us, supporting us, and calling us toward growth.

In recovery, our spiritual awakening shows up in subtle ways: we feel more connected to others, we experience moments of gratitude and peace, we find ourselves wanting to be of service. We realize that we're not just surviving—we're truly alive.

Today, honor your spiritual awakening. Notice the ways you've changed, the new perspectives you've gained, the deeper connection you feel to life itself. This is the gift of recovery—not just sobriety, but a complete transformation of spirit.

Today's Practice

Today, I will reflect on one way my perspective has shifted since beginning recovery. I will acknowledge the spiritual growth happening within me.
