"Fear knocked at the door. Faith answered. There was no one there."
— Old Proverb
Step Three asks us to make "a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him." This requires tremendous faith—faith that there's something greater than ourselves, faith that we'll be okay even when we can't see the path ahead.
Fear is natural in recovery. We're stepping into the unknown, letting go of the substance that we used to cope with life. But faith is the antidote to fear. When we trust that our Higher Power has our back, when we believe that we're being guided and supported, fear loses its power over us.
Faith doesn't mean we never feel afraid. It means we move forward despite the fear. We take the next right action, we show up for our recovery, and we trust that everything we need will be provided.
Today, when fear arises, practice faith. Remind yourself that you're not alone, that you're being carried even when you can't feel it. Faith over fear—this is how we stay sober, one day at a time.
Today, when fear shows up, I will pause and say: "I choose faith over fear. I trust that I am being guided and supported." I will take the next right action, even if I'm scared.
These daily reflections are here to guide you, but you don't have to walk this path alone. If you or someone you love needs personalized support navigating recovery, I'm here to help.
