Easy Does It: Avoiding Overwhelm

"Easy does it, but do it."

— AA Slogan

Today's Reflection

"Easy does it" reminds us to pace ourselves in recovery. We don't have to do everything at once. We don't have to have all the answers today. We can take things slowly, gently, one step at a time.

Many of us come into recovery as perfectionists and overachievers. We want to fix everything immediately, work all the Steps in a week, and transform our lives overnight. But recovery doesn't work that way. Transformation takes time, and trying to rush it only leads to burnout.

The second part—"but do it"—reminds us that easy doesn't mean inactive. We still need to take action, show up for meetings, work with our sponsor, and do the work. But we do it with gentleness and patience, not with force or desperation.

Today, practice "easy does it." When you feel overwhelmed, slow down. Take a breath. Do the next right thing, then the next. You don't have to tackle everything at once. Progress, not perfection.

Today's Practice

Today, when I feel overwhelmed, I will pause and remind myself: "Easy does it. I only need to do the next right thing."
