"Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less."
— C.S. Lewis
Humility is essential in recovery. It's what allows us to admit we need help, to accept guidance from others, and to recognize that we don't have all the answers. Without humility, we stay stuck in the pride and denial that kept us drinking.
Humility is not about self-deprecation or thinking we're worthless. It's about right-sizing ourselves—understanding that we're neither superior nor inferior to anyone else. We're simply human beings doing our best to heal and grow.
When we approach recovery with humility, we become teachable. We can learn from others' experiences. We can accept feedback without becoming defensive. We can admit when we're wrong and make amends. This openness is what allows real transformation to happen.
Today, practice humility by recognizing that you don't have to have everything figured out. It's okay to be a work in progress. It's okay to ask for help. It's okay to be human.
Today, I will practice humility by asking for help with something I've been trying to handle on my own. I will remember that seeking guidance is a sign of wisdom, not weakness.
