"You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection."
- Buddha
Today, on a day traditionally focused on romantic love, we invite you to redirect that loving energy inward. Self-love is not selfish—it's essential. It's the foundation upon which all recovery is built, the wellspring from which genuine healing flows.
Recovery begins when you decide that you are worthy of love, care, and compassion—especially from yourself. For too long, addiction may have told you otherwise. Today, we challenge that narrative.
Self-love in recovery isn't about bubble baths and positive affirmations alone (though those can help). It's about making choices that honor your wellbeing, even when they're difficult. It's about:
We invite you to try this simple exercise today. Find a quiet moment, place your hand over your heart, and speak these words to yourself:
"I am worthy of love. I am worthy of healing. I am worthy of recovery. My journey matters, and so do I."
If those words feel difficult to believe right now, that's okay. Say them anyway. Self-love is a practice, not a destination. Some days it will feel natural; other days, it will feel like climbing a mountain. Both are valid. Both are part of the journey.
Remember that self-love doesn't mean going it alone. True self-love includes recognizing when you need support and reaching out for it. Whether that's through family, friends, a recovery advisor, or a treatment program—seeking help is one of the most powerful acts of self-love you can practice.
Today, and every day, you deserve compassion. You deserve support. You deserve recovery. Not because you've earned it or proven yourself, but simply because you are human, and that is enough.
If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction, know that support is available. Our recovery advisors are here to help you navigate the path to healing with compassion and expertise.
